WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR HVAC IN EXTREME HEAT

When the heat settles in over south like a suffocating wool blanket, you will be thankful to have air conditioning. While these valuable systems will help cool off your home, the extreme heat will put undue strain on your A/C unit. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help your air conditioner run more effectively and efficiently, saving money on your electricity bill and preventing frustrating air conditioner breakdowns.

Harbin Heating & Air offers annual tune-ups to keep your system running efficiently. They will check refrigerant levels, tighten loose connections, and lubricate moving parts. You should have your air conditioner professionally inspected, cleaned, and serviced before the hot weather rolls through. It’s a wise investment to make and can catch small repairs before they become expensive headaches.

Air filters are one of the most important indoor air quality products available for your home. In addition to keeping the air clean, they also ensure that your system has proper airflow. Change your filter monthly to help your system run better when the heat settles in.

Don’t expect too much of your air conditioner system. When the temperature outside is moving into triple digits, you cannot reasonably expect your air conditioner to cool your home to a frosty 70 degrees.

Attempting to do so will strain your system and send your electric bill through the roof. Keep curtains closed to prevent the sun’s rays from warming the home, making it easier to cool the home. Limiting your use of the oven will also help keep some heat out of the home.

Invest in a programmable digital thermostat or a WiFi-enabled thermostat to take control of your home’s temperatures even when you are gone. You can allow the home to warm up some while you’re away, but you will want the air to start cooling it down again before you arrive back home. If you aren’t sure how to replace this important part of your system, ask about having it done as part of your annual A/C tune-up with Ken’s.
